A Mountain of Anime Updates Arrived During the Festive Season
The winter break present a multitude of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than checking the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and using patience techniques to refrain from yelling at relatives. It is wished you managed to do all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items came out during the break, and just in case you didn't see a few, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)
Truly the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which might be a positive development. Yet, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it maintained the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now the community is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been running for some time, and its sixth season was another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two
Immediately following the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
