Accused Harasser Questioned: 'Yet Suppose I Am Madeleine?'
A female indicted with pursuing Kate McCann apparently recorded her a voicemail message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has persistently claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court was told communication data and evidence retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during that period.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported child disappearance cases and remains unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate voicemail, played in court, documented Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I believe."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "What if there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I don't want money, I have a life here in Poland, I just want to discover," the recording stated.
The tribunal was told that through electronic messages, mobile messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who compiled the data, told the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also reached out to family friends of the McCanns, as per the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
That day Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will persist and I plan to establish my position."
The court heard Mrs Spragg established a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in that winter.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the months preceding the visit to the village, that area, in that winter.
The court heard communications between the two individuals, in November 2024, discussing endeavoring to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from utensils at a eating establishment.
"We must make a stand," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the trip to their residence, the defendant dispatched a communication which said: "We are sitting adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark resembling detectives. I had hoped to accomplish this with someone else I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The case ongoing.
