Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
