Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a former world number one, has had a challenging period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.
Now working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.
It is his initial trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.
Success also signifies he has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.
"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on court had led commentators to question if his skill to play at the highest level was over.
However the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an improved serve.
He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.
The pair swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional championship, took control to force a decider.
Moutet rescued four early chances in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, he secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
